My

mission

  • To share my love for music with other families and individuals who are looking for a fulfilling musical learning experience.

  • To empower my students to uniquely express themselves through music.

  • To provide my students with opportunities to participate in live performances, shows, gigs and gain performance experience on stage, which is an essential component of being a musician and is what musicians live for.

  • To challenge and guide your knowledge in music theory and how it applies to the songs we learn.

  • To be your facilitator and mentor, and to cater and accommodate to whatever musical ambitions you have.

  • To help you find your jam.

I started playing the guitar when I was six years old.  I was exposed to Rock and Blues music at an early age learning Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones and AC/DC.  As I moved through adolescence into my teenage years, I fell in love with Metal music and played in several different Metal bands.  I also studied music theory and later enrolled in classical guitar lessons at Mount Royal University. After high school, I enrolled in the classical guitar program at the University of Calgary where I obtained my Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar with an emphasis in performance.  I coached a guitar quartet in Colombia in preparation for their senior recital. I also prepared students for the Kiwanis festival in Calgary where a student of mine won first place in her category. In 2003, I hung up my guitars in search of a new path in life and hadn’t touched them until I became a dad and decided that I wanted to share the gift of music with my kids.  So in the summer of 2015 (twelve and half years later), I picked up my guitar again and prepared my four year old son on the drums and seven year old daughter on the guitar to play happy birthday to my mom, which was a surprise performance for her 70th birthday.  Shortly after, I convinced my wife to let me teach her the bass guitar, which she finally agreed to, and this was the start of our family band.  A year later, my nephews and my brother jumped on board. We now enjoy frequent family time through band rehearsals almost every weekend preparing for our own shows throughout the year. The return to music has reconfirmed my love and passion for music and this is how Lightning Ant Music School was born.
